Governments were traditionally not necessarily looking to be on the “cutting edge” of innovation, however in the light of new social trends as well as the shifts brought about by the covid-19 pandemic innovation has moved up on the agenda.
Despite an increase pressure to become more innovative and make better use of the latest technologies government organizations and nonprofits are still battling a risk averse culture and processes better suited for incremental change. However there are plenty of examples out there that come to prove that change can happen and innovation in government should not be viewed as an oxymoronic construct.
Based on OUTCOME’s pioneering work on measuring corporate Innovation Maturity, we’ve launched ‘AIM Individual’ – a single-person version of the enterprise-wide tool AIM, used to build The Global Innovation Maturity Index.
Apparently there is a lack of clarity around innovation strategy and translating it into clear tactical plans that employees can act on.
Senior leaders in this industry typically don’t display the mindset and behaviour required for leading for innovation.
Skills development for managers in the companies in this industry it seems to be done mostly in a one-size-fits-all fashion with little consideration for individual needs and existing capabilities.
Culture wise it seems that in organizations in this industry only a handful of employees are given the opportunity to take their own ideas forward and further their careers. Innovation is not a democratized activity.
The innovation process of organizations in this industry seems to be hindered by the organizational structure of innovation. Organizations in this space are apparently not designed nor set up for innovation.
